Here are a few of my favorite 2019 kitchen decor trends. I love how in Fall, the kitchen becomes even more central to our lives at home. Darker and longer evenings, family visits and cooking for the Holidays means we tend to gravitate toward the heart of the house in the cooler months. If your kitchen needs a facelift, here are a few ways you can bring your kitchen decor into the present.
Open Shelving
Open shelving is still among the top 2019 kitchen decor trends, and by now the look has stood the test of time. I also like open shelves because they force us to be more deliberate in the purchases we make, as items will be on display for all to see! For the shelves themselves, choose a material that's easy to clean, sturdy, and will play well with your current surfaces. To organize and style open kitchen shelving, display neutral matching dishware, pretty copper or stainless pots, potted herbs or plants, your favorite serving pieces, spices or grains in glass jars, or pretty cook books. More on styling shelves here.
Dark Cabinetry
If you're considering a more invested kitchen overhaul, consider a dark stain or paint which lends a dramatic and upscale look to your lower cabinets and drawers. This finish has a slight indigo tint, which works well with the existing granite and tile. I also love how these brushed brass fixtures play off the warmth of the natural shelves and warm granite color.
Brushed brass and brushed gold finishes have definitely made a comeback in 2019 kitchen decor trends, and replacing hardware is one of the easiest ways to come by an on-trend kitchen look, if you're not prepared to face an entire cabinet change. Choose a minimalist design as shown above, to keep things from looking too gaudy.
Modern Lighting
A sleek kitchen lighting design – as shown here with natural wood and metal elements – is a great way to tie in varying textures and keep your kitchen on-trend with little investment.
Bold Flatware
I still love brushed gold flatware, but a black set like this one from West Elm is an unexpected and modern alternative that will look nice with clean white plates, neutral linens or even dark wood or stone serving dishes.
Updated Kitchen Bar Stools
If you have a breakfast bar or kitchen island, chances are you've been on a quest – or several – for the perfect bar stool. Kitchen bar stools can be quite pricey, which can be frustrating. However, if you consider that kitchen island bar stools have all but replaced the modern dining room, as well as their frequent use and high visibility, you might want to pony up for a high-end set of stools.
These gorgeous "Duta" stools by Sosegó Design are higher-end investment pieces that will beautify your kitchen and welcome family and friends to relax for hours. The ergonomic and modern design is a wonderful addition to any on-trend kitchen.
A more wallet-friendly and still eye-catching option are these Lirette Swivel Bar Stools by George Oliver.
Brushed Gold Kitchen Faucet
Give your current kitchen sink an instant facelift for 2019 with this brushed gold fixture by Krause. The flexible industrial sprayer and the ability to fill the deepest of stock pots means that form and function are beautifully combined - which is always in style.
